Defending Wisconsin’s Environment
Starting in the 1970s, Clean Wisconsin brought several foundational lawsuits that established the state’s cornerstone environmental law, Wisconsin’s Environmental Policy Act (WEPA), and we’ve continued to be a leading voice for important environmental protections in the five decades since. We have stopped the construction of coal plants, defeated open-pit mining projects, supported the rise of clean energy, and protected critical wetlands, among many other great victories.
Today, Clean Wisconsin continues to focus on the most important environmental issues affecting out state.

DNR requires Kinnard Farms to test groundwater for manure pollution
For the first time, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is using its permitting authority to require a large-scale dairy operation to monitor groundwater pollution around farm fields where it spreads manure. The move stems from last summer’s Clean Wisconsin v. DNR state Supreme Court ruling.
