Green Infrastructure Associate (Seasonal)

Clean Wisconsin is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit seeking a motivated Green Infrastructure (GI) Associate to support Clean Wisconsin’s resilient communities program team with our small-scale green infrastructure (GI) work in the Milwaukee region, including rain garden and rain barrel installations. The Green Infrastructure Associate is a seasonal position starting in May and ending in November and is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Green Infrastructure Associate is responsible for coordinating and assisting with outreach and green infrastructure installation projects, conducting educational workshops, and engaging with community stakeholders to develop and implement neighborhood targets for green infrastructure installations throughout Milwaukee. This position reports to the Green Infrastructure Manager and provides general support to Clean Wisconsin’s resilient communities program as needed. 


Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Green Infrastructure Manager, assist in project management of Clean Wisconsin and Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s green infrastructure outreach work in Milwaukee known as the MMSD Neighborhood GI Outreach Project.  
  • Coordinate outreach events and educational workshops with residents, neighborhood leaders, and neighborhood service providers and related organizations, to educate community members about the need for and benefits of green infrastructure. 
  • Coordinate and physically install small-scale residential green infrastructure projects, such as rain barrels, rain gardens, and native planting beds, and perform maintenance to existing green infrastructure. 
  • Operate as supervisor on job sites and oversee field work with MMSD’s Fresh Coast Intern Team. 
  • Assist the Green Infrastructure Manager in developing customized workshops and materials, policy development and education, and promoting green infrastructure to various audiences and special interest groups as needed. 
  • Seek opportunities and build partnerships for Clean Wisconsin in Milwaukee, southeast regional Wisconsin, and statewide. 
  • Support the resilient communities program team with grant project administration. 

Required skills and experience:

  • Ability to foster and maintain relationships with residents, partnering organizations, and associated community partners; 
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team; 
  • Strong written and oral communication, including listening skills and non-verbal communication; 
  • Ability to perform in a multi-task environment and prioritize work requirements; ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a long-term vision; 
  • Proficiency in planning and installation of green infrastructure; includes general landscaping skills, knowledge, and use of a variety of hand tools and equipment. 
  • Ability to interact effectively, appropriately, and compassionately with staff and community partners; 
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and database management; 
  • Commitment to helping create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences; 
  • Flexibility and creativity; 
  • Requires full range of physical movement – bending, reaching, lifting, etc. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferred; 
  • Experience working with environmental organizations, which can include internships and volunteer positions. A minimum of three years of such experience is preferred. 

Compensation:

This is a seasonal position starting in May and ending in November 2024. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Occasional evening and weekend work required.  

Pay range is $22 to $25 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience. No benefits are offered with this seasonal position.
