Just one year after President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) into law, it’s already creating positive change in Wisconsin. Across the state, new clean energy projects have spurred $445 million in investment and created or moved forward more than 500 good-paying clean energy jobs. IRA investments in Wisconsin are also positioning our state as a solar and EV manufacturing hub; we rank 9th in the nation for new solar energy investments.
On the eve of Inflation Reduction Act’s one year anniversary, President Biden, along with Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Rep. Gwen Moore, and Gov. Tony Evers, celebrated the IRA at Milwaukee manufacturer Ingeteam. The company recently announced it will add up to one hundred new jobs as it expands its production capabilities to meet global demand for EV charging stations, an advancement made possible by federal IRA funding.
“When I think climate, I think jobs.” said Biden. “…like the 12 solar projects Alliant Energy is building across Wisconsin, creating more than 2,000 local construction jobs, most of them union jobs. And in the process of serving customers in Wisconsin, saving them more than $1.6 billion in energy costs.”
According to the Department of Energy, the IRA will invest an estimated $4 billion in large-scale clean power generation and storage in Wisconsin between now and 2030. It will empower the state to update our electrical grid, create good-paying jobs and expand job training, provide incentives that reduce the cost of clean energy technologies, and accelerate the transition to clean energy sources.
“This is an exciting time in Wisconsin,” said Clean Wisconsin President & CEO Mark Redsten. “Programs are rolling out across our state supporting clean transportation, energy efficient homes and buildings, clean power generation, and resilient farms. And this is just the beginning. There is a lot of work ahead of us in Wisconsin, but thanks to the IRA and the incredible work happening in communities across our state, we are moving in the right direction, toward a cleaner, healthier future for everyone.”
