Ban toxic PFAS ‘Forever Chemicals’ in Wisconsin

Wisconsin must act to protect our water, soil and air by banning all non-essential uses of toxic PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ in our state.

Wisconsin must act to protect our water, soil and air by banning all non-essential uses of toxic PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ in our state. PFAS are a group of thousands of chemicals widely used in all kinds of consumer products including food packaging, non-stick cookware, water resistant clothing, stain-resistant furniture, carpets, pesticides, feminine products, and cosmetics. Known for resisting water, oil, and heat, these man-made substances are often referred to as ‘forever chemicals’ because they don’t break down easily in the environment and can build up in our bodies.

High-level exposure to PFAS has been linked to suppressed immune response, increased risk of cancer, decreased fertility, lower birth rates, and hormone disruption. $100 million dollars in annual healthcare costs in Wisconsin is linked to PFAS exposure. (Read the research)

Those who sign this petition call on state lawmakers to protect public health by banning the manufacture and sale of products with nonessential PFAS in the state of Wisconsin.

We are calling for legislation similar to Amara’s Law in Minnesota. This law prohibits intentionally added PFAS that fall under 11 categories:
carpets or rugs
cleaning products
cookware
cosmetics
dental floss
fabric treatments
food packaging
juvenile products
menstruation products
textile furnishings
ski wax
upholstered furniture
While PFAS are often found in these product categories, PFAS-free alternatives are already widely available.
