The program is a collaboration among the Great Lakes Explorers Group at Pulaski Middle School, UW Green Bay, and Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve.
📣 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 📣
- Wisconsin has lost about half its wetlands over the last 150 years.
- Wetlands naturally improve water quality – they absorb excess fertilizers, sediments, and pollutants before they reach larger bodies of water.
- A third of the state’s species depend on wetlands for living and breeding.
- Wetlands are crucial in the fight against climate change. Wetlands cover 5 to 8% of the earth, but hold upwards of 30% of soil carbon.
