Overview
We need answers
If data centers come to Wisconsin, they must benefit—not harm—our communities. But right now, we have far more questions than answers about their impacts. How much energy and water will a project use? How will those demands be met? Will there be backup diesel generators on site and how often will they be fired up for testing? Our communities don’t have the transparency and safeguards they need and deserve.
Sign the Petition! Call on state and local leaders to act
Tell state and local leaders to pause AI data center approvals until Wisconsin has a comprehensive state plan to ensure these projects will not harm our communities.
Now is the time to stop the secrecy and start taking a hard look at how AI data centers will impact our air quality, drinking water, energy systems, land and climate. Without careful planning, the harm to our communities and environment could be irrevocable.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping our world. In Wisconsin, that transformation is taking physical form in massive new data centers. These “hyperscale” facilities, made up of windowless server buildings often covering more than 700,000 square feet each, are being pitched as economic opportunities. But their staggering energy and water demands raise serious questions about harm to our communities and natural resources.
- Just two of the AI data center projects approved in our state will use more energy than all the homes in Wisconsin combined.
- A single data center could also use more water than an entire city when offsite water withdrawals are factored in.
What’s clear is that these projects are moving faster than public accountability. Transparency is scarce, community voices are being left out, and the long-term costs could be far greater than we realize. Without full disclosure and careful planning, Wisconsin families will pay the price through polluted air, skyrocketing energy bills, missed climate goals and strained water resources.
Tell lawmakers to protect our air, water, land and climate and pause data center approvals!
