Hold Enbridge Accountable for Violations at Line 5

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources just issued a Notice of Violation against Canadian oil giant Enbridge as the company rushes to complete a reroute of its Line 5 oil pipeline across a pristine section of Wisconsin’s Northwoods. The notice of violation details Enbridge’s “persistent pattern of non-compliance” with Wisconsin’s laws that protect our air, water, and wildlife.

The allegations from the DNR are numerous and serious. The DNR must now use the full force of its enforcement authority to stop construction, revoke the permits, and ensure accountability for the violations that have already happened.

The Notice comes just weeks after Enbridge spilled 1.3 million gallons of natural gas liquids from Line 5 in Iron County, the largest oil and gas pipeline spill in Wisconsin history.

Use your voice! Contact the DNR and Governor’s Office and tell them to enforce Wisconsin’s environmental protections now.

Governor Evers: (608) 266-1212 Email

DNR Secretary Hyun: (608) 266-2252, Email

The DNR and Governor need to hear from you! Tell them:

  • The state must stop construction, revoke the permits, and hold Enbridge accountable for the violations that have already happened.
  • Fines after the fact do not protect our natural resources.
  • These are not isolated incidents. The DNR’s own allegations detail a pattern of non-compliance with Wisconsin laws.
  • It’s time to stand up for Wisconsin’s environment and the thousands of jobs and livelihoods that depend on it.
