Overview
Why Clean Transportation Matters
Wisconsin is at a turning point. To fight climate change and protect public health, we must quickly shift from gas-powered vehicles to cleaner, modern transportation.
Transportation makes up about 25% of Wisconsin’s carbon emissions—and it’s also a major source of harmful air pollution. Vehicle exhaust worsens air quality and contributes to asthma, heart disease, and other chronic conditions.
The good news? Every step toward cleaner cars, buses, and infrastructure means healthier communities and a safer climate.
KEY INITIATIVES
What Are We Advocating For?
We’re working toward a cleaner, healthier transportation future for Wisconsin—reducing emissions, improving access, and putting people first with smart, sustainable solutions.
Electric Vehicles
We advocate for more charging stations, smart EV policies, and incentives that make electric vehicles practical and accessible statewide. EVs produce no tailpipe emissions and cost less to fuel and maintain. With support from Clean Wisconsin, the state unlocked $78M in federal funding to expand charging infrastructure, especially in rural parts of the state.
Clean Public Transit
We support local governments building clean, reliable, zero-emission transit systems that connect people to jobs, schools, and services. Many Wisconsin cities are already embracing clean, electric bus fleets, and many Wisconsin school districts are moving towards safe, electric school buses.
Safe Biking and Walking
We champion bike lanes, sidewalks, and people-first design that makes walking and biking easier, safer, and more inviting. Active transportation reduces traffic, cuts emissions, and supports healthier, more connected communities.
