Maithilee Kanthi

Maithilee Kanthi joined Clean Wisconsin as the Climate Justice Organizer in early 2021, bringing her background in community organizing and climate justice to build broad support for climate solutions across Wisconsin. As a lifelong California native, Maithilee loves spending time at the beach, soaking in the year-round sun, and exploring the natural beauty of the West Coast.

In January 2019, Maithilee helped launch a local hub for Sunrise Movement, a national youth-led climate movement advocating for the Green New Deal. As Hub Coordinator of Sunrise Santa Barbara, Maithilee helped organize education and outreach events, student activism against local oil projects, and trainings aimed at empowering young leaders with advocacy skills. She also interned with Sunrise Movement’s national Training Team in the summer of 2019 as the Training Logistics Coordinator. In this role, she helped build a Logistics Toolkit that helped hubs, nationwide, plan their own regional trainings, serving to ultimately scale up the scope of Sunrise Movement’s political strategy. Maithilee remains involved with Sunrise Movement as a trainer with the Bay Area hub and with the national Mass Trainings Team network.

Maithilee graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara in June 2020 with a B.A. in Political Science and Global Studies. While in college, Maithilee participated in the Mellon-Sawyer Energy Justice Seminar as an undergraduate researcher and collaborated with local environmental organizations to develop a local framework for a Fair & Just Transition, a cornerstone of the climate justice movement.

Her favorite things to do outdoors include boogie boarding, picnicking with friends, visiting nature gardens and conservatories, and taking her cats out on a walk.
