Pushing Back Against the Waukesha Water Diversion

Waukesha first applied to divert water out of Lake Michigan under the Great Lakes Compact to serve the municipality’s needs in 2010. Clean Wisconsin worked to ensure that this application and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ process to consider the application both met the standards in the Great Lakes Compact.

After working in close collaboration with a coalition of five other Wisconsin environmental conservation organizations, we earned another victory in 2013 when the DNR rejected Waukesha’s application again to draw water from Lake Michigan.
