Karen Knetter moved to Madison in 2002 after living 14 years in New Hampshire and before that in California and Ohio. At Stanford University she completed a B.S. in Applied Earth Sciences and M.S. in Resources Planning with a focus on water resources. She played on the Stanford Women’s Basketball team on scholarship. After graduating she worked at an environmental consulting group (Resource Systems Group) for 10 years doing traffic impact studies, transportation planning, and air quality modeling for both private and public sector clients. In NH she volunteered on several conservation committees: Upper Valley Household Hazardous Waste, Hanover Recycling, and Hanover Conservation Council.
Since living in Wisconsin with her husband Mike and two daughters, Karen has volunteered in the schools: ran Shorewood Elementary PTO’s foreign language program, assisted in the PTO’s 501(c)3 restructuring, worked on the cafeteria noise abatement study, and served on the PTO Board as Treasurer, Vice President, and President. She currently volunteers as a stream monitor for the Rock River Coalition, and enjoys yoga, making pottery and simply being outside hiking, sailing, biking, cross-country skiing and camping.
