Mike Stuart practiced in the field of energy law for 30 years, and worked at WPPI Energy as legal counsel and served as chief operating officer until the spring of 2012. Prior to joining WPPI Energy, he practiced regulatory law for 18 years and regularly appeared before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) on behalf of municipal electric utilities and industrial customers. While at WPPI Energy, Mike advocated for WPPI Energy member utilities and their customers at the highest levels of state and national government and within the electric industry. In addition, Mike was responsible for day-to-day operations and the implementation of WPPI Energy’s business plan objectives.
Mike was also instrumental in the formation of the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator, Inc. (MISO), acting as a steady force in representing the interests of Wisconsin municipal utilities. Mike actively participated in the Customers First! Coalition and Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin (MEUW). He regularly championed the public power cause and supported the legislative and public policy efforts of WPPI Energy and MEUW to help benefit all WPPI Energy members and their customers.
