Public hearing on We Energies Coal Pile expansion at Oak Creek

, By Clean Wisconsin

bigstock-Coal-Pile-emailWe Energies is proposing to double the size of the current outdoor coal storage pile that feeds its Oak Creek Power Plant.

And despite concerns from people like you about blowing coal dust and a potential increase in particle matter emissions, tiny particles that can get in the air and lodge in people’s lungs, We Energies has not proposed any changes to limit the amount of coal dust blowing off the expanded pile.

If you’re concerned about the air you’re breathing or the health of you and your family, we hope you can attend a public hearing with the DNR on this
issue Thursday!

Thursday, Aug. 6 at 10:30 a.m.
DNR Southeast Region Headquarters
2300 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. Room 139
Milwaukee

At the public hearing, you will have the opportunity to ask questions or make a statement. In addition, you can always attend and just listen. Attending a hearing will let decision-makers know that the topic is important to you. We’d love to pack the room to show how important this
issue is for the quality of our air and health!

If you plan to attend the hearing, feel free to contact Matt Landi, our Science & Policy Associate at 608-251-7020 x29 or via email.
