Experts and Public to Demand "No More Coal!" at Alliant Shareholder Meeting
Alliant Energy's proposal to build a coal-fired power plant in the small town of Cassville, Wisconsin would further Wisconsin's dependence on coal and contribute to the company's projected 40 percent increase in global warming pollution. On May 15th, community members will gather outside the annual Alliant Energy shareholder meeting in Madison to tell the corporation that ratepayers reject the proposed Cassville coal-fired power plant as it is a bad investment for Wisconsin's environment and economy.
Following the outdoor protest, ratepayers and other stakeholders excluded from the shareholder meeting will meet with national experts inside the Alliant Energy Center to discuss the dangers of coal and propose smarter solutions for powering the 21st century. This ratepayer meeting and press conference will feature Thomas Sanzillo, the former Deputy Comptroller of New York, who has performed numerous economic analyses of coal-fired power plants in New York and across the Midwest. Mr. Sanzillo will discuss the rising costs of coal and the risks to ratepayers.
