Clean
Water:
Protecting and improving Wisconsin's Great Lakes,
inland lakes and great rivers
Wisconsin's Great lakes, inland lakes and rivers are special places we go to fish, swim and just plain enjoy. These precious waters are a resource for us to use and protect; they face many threats including pollution, invasive species, and those who would profit from exporting our precious lake waters.
Clean Wisconsin is working to protect and improve Wisconsin's waters. Our main clean water programs include:
- GREAT LAKES: Passing and enforcing the Great Lakes Compact and protecting and restoring the Great Lakes.
- GROUNDWATER: Protecting Wisconsin's groundwater.
- MERCURY REDUCTION: Reducing mercury pollution that is contaminating our lakes and fish and harming our citizens, by:
- Reducing mercury emissions from power plants; and,
- Eliminating mercury in products, like thermostats and switches.
- MURPHY OIL EXPANSION: Preventing an oil sands refinery expansion on the pristine shores of Lakes Superior
- ELM ROAD GENERATING STATION (ERGS) WATER PERMIT, OAK CREEK COAL PLANT : Stopping new coal plants from being built using outdated water intake technology that harms the Great Lakes and its habitats.
- POLLUTED RUNOFF: Reducing the amount of animal waste, fertilizers and toxins polluting our lakes and rivers.
