Renewable Energy:
Homegrown innovations: Wisconsin's clean and balanced energy future

Wisconsin has the opportunity to create a clean and balanced energy future for our state and our citizens. Most agree that clean, safe and innovative energy sources from local manufacturers and farmers have an important role in moving Wisconsin toward more energy independence. However, our state currently generates more than 70% of its electricity from old polluting coal plants, some dating back to the 1940s. We can do better.

In 2005 Clean Wisconsin was a driving force behind implementing Wisconsin's Clean Energy Law which required Wisconsin's public utilities to generate or acquire more than 10% of their energy from renewable resources by the year 2015. Currently, Clean Wisconsin is supporting renewable energy sources in Wisconsin, and is working on federal legislation — the "Renewable Electricity Standard" amendment to the Energy Bill — that would require public utilities to obtain more than 15% of their energy from renewable sources by the year 2020.

Clean Wisconsin believes renewable energy sources provide Wisconsin and the rest of the country an opportunity to move toward a cleaner, more sustainable, economically healthy energy future.
