Great Lakes Restoration:
Protecting and Restoring the Great Lakes
The Great Lakes are one of the natural wonders of the world. They are the heart of the ecosystem that we rely on for life. They are an economic engine for our state, and their beauty enriches our lives and identifies our region. Yet, our magnificent, remarkable and valuable Great Lakes are vulnerable — and it is our responsibility to protect them. Each day, our Lakes are damaged economically and ecologically by untreated sewage, industrial pollutants and invasive species. Unless we invest in a solution today, the price we will pay tomorrow will be much higher and future generations may never experience the Lakes as we know them.
Clean Wisconsin is working to protect your Great Lakes, by trying to pass the Great Lakes Collaboration Implementation Act in the US Congress, a comprehensive regional plan that dedicates funding to protect our drinking water, economic future and way of life. Additional work we are doing to protect and restore the Great Lakes includes: passing the Aquatic Invasive Species legislation in the US Congress, reauthorization of the stewardship fund, prevention of sewer overflows, funding for Great Lakes research, and implementation of strong statewide buffer rules.
