Take Action: Clean Energy
Act now - Tell the PSC you don’t want
another outdated technology coal plant in Wisconsin!
Clean energy means
a better Wisconsin!
Wisconsin deserves the best in clean, responsible energy choices that meet our needs for electricity, but also protect our health and the environment. The Cassville (or Portage) plant falls short of what Wisconsinites deserve because it will rely on old, dirty coal technology. This does nothing to position Wisconsin as a leader in innovative energy technology or to help curb global warming. Wisconsin can and should make choices that protect human health and our quality of life.
It's time to stop building dirty, outdated coal plants. Wisconsin is already over-dependent on increasingly expensive out-of-state coal that pollutes our air, adds to global warming and poisons our lakes and streams with mercury. We get 70% of our electricity from coal transported great distances from out of state, and that's too much. We can do better. Alliant can do better. There are innovative, proven technologies available today that are cheaper, cleaner, safer, and more efficient.
NOW is the time to demand a cleaner energy future. Please click here and submit comments against Alliant’s proposal. If it is helpful, feel free to use some of the talking points below to assist in your comments:
- The citizens of Wisconsin deserve the best, most up-to-date technology available for meeting their power needs.
- There is no dirtier source of energy than coal and Wisconsin is overly dependent on it for its energy needs.
- Wind is free, compared to coal which is costly to mine and ship long distances.
- Whatever is happening with the climate as it relates to global warming, the pollution we’re putting into the atmosphere is making things worse, not better.
- Why use outdated technology that will contribute to global warming when other more efficient technologies exist?
- If the PSC allows Alliant to build the power plant as proposed - using an outdated technology - global warming pollution from the site will more than double to over 4 million tons per year.
- This represents a great economic development opportunity for Wisconsin to be a leader in innovative technology.
- The technological know-how exists for more efficient power production…the obstacles are not lack of technology.
