With the belief that the 1970s would be the start of a new environmental era, Wisconsin's Environmental Decade, now Clean Wisconsin, was founded on Earth Day 1970 (2010 also marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day) by Doug La Follette, now the Secretary of State, and Peter Anderson. Early leaders of the organization include current Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk and state Representative Spencer Black. In 2003, the organization changed its name to Clean Wisconsin.
